Project Definition
Even before you can start building the structure of a DVD, with menus, chapters, etc. one must devise an outline to guide the production process, which may include preparation of DVD Project Requirements List and Project Schedule.
Content Acquisition
This step can be simple or protracted, dependent on whether copyright clearances have been obtained. We also try to get the best possible copy of all media assets to ensure that they retain image quality through DVD compression. (Upsampling or conversion of low-resolution sources can sometimes be a solution if better sources cannot be found.)
Project Flowchart Preparation
For complex DVD productions, flowcharts are created to diagram the function of the menus and other navigational elements in relation to the content.
Media Preparation
This step involves converting or formatting all the audio, video and graphics consistent with the requirements for DVD authoring. Since the DVD format has finite space constraints, it is often necessary to prepare a "bit budget" to determine how to process the media such that it will fit on the disc.
